Brandman University is a non-profit regionally accredited private institution that provides educational opportunities for working adults. There are 26 campuses throughout California and Washington, and a virtual campus online. The university offers more than 200 degree, certificate, credential and professional programs in business, arts and sciences, health and education. [3]
Brandman is a separate, fully accredited university within the Chapman University System.[4] Gary Brahm is the appointed Chancellor of Brandman University. He previously spent 14 years as Executive Vice President and CFO at Chapman University.[5][6][7]

Chapman University established the Residence Education Center Program, to meet the educational needs of military personnel in 1958. It was later named Chapman University College, at the nearby Marine Corps Air Station El Toro. Chapman University College became Brandman University in 2008.[8] [9]
Brandman is regionally accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) [10]and a member of the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL). [11] Additionally, The School of Nursing and Health Professions is in compliance with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) standards and accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).[10] Teacher training programs offered through the School of Education are accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). Brandman is a “Military-Friendly School” according to G.I. Jobs Magazine and Military.com[13] and a Yellow Ribbon School.[14] Brandman University offers reduced tuition rates for active military, their spouses and dependents. Brandman University has campuses on military bases at Naval Base Kitsap Bangor,[15] Naval Air Station Lemoore, [16] Joint Base Lewis-McChord, [17] Travis Air Force Base,[18] and the Navy Campus Education Center at the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. [19]
Brandman University also offers a Veterans2College program (V2C) that serves military personnel, their spouses and veterans. [20] A $2.1 million gift from the Brandman Foundation helped to fund this program. [21] According to a press release from Brandman University, the "V2C focuses on increasing accessibility of quality educational opportunities to veterans by offering specially designed courses, student support and networking facilities that will develop academic, social and career skills supporting the completion of college degrees and future job placements."[20] The program was developed in collaboration with the University of Arizona based on their VETS program.[22]
In January 2011, Brandman University partnered with the California State Firefighters Association (CSFA) to offer a bachelors of arts in applied studies (BAAS) for California’s firefighting community.[23][24] The program was designed in cooperation with CSFA, California Fire Chiefs Association, Orange County Fire Authority, Santa Ana College and other organizations. The program is offered at 23 Brandman University locations throughout the state of California and online. [25]
Brandman offers a curriculum model known as iDEAL (Instructional Design for Engaged Adult Learning.)[26]According to a study by the Lumina Foundation, iDEAL addresses both the flexibility and learning methodology preferred by adult learners. [27] iDEAL combines traditional classroom instruction with e-learning activities.[28]
The university offers degree programs through four schools: The School of Nursing and Health Professions; School of Education; School of Business and Professional Studies; and School of Arts and Sciences. Through its Extended Education department, the university offers certificate and credential programs, leadership seminars and professional development and credentialing for California’s K-12 teachers.[26]
The Brandman University School of Nursing and Health Professions was established in 2009 and welcomed its first cohort of Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students in the Fall of 2010. The school is under the leadership of Dean Renee P. McLeod PhD, APRN-BC, CPNP. [29]McLeod was a pediatric nurse practitioner for over 30 years, past president of NAPNAP and former director of the Office of Transformational Technologies and Organizations and Director of Graduate Education and Advanced Practice Programs in the College of Nursing & Healthcare Innovation at Arizona State University.[30]
In addition to offering the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Master of Health Administration (MHA) and the Master of Science in Health Risk and Crisis Communication (MS-HRCC) degree programs, [31] Brandman was the first university in Orange County, California to offer a DNP degree in five specialty areas:[32]
